Inter head coach Simeone Inzaghi has praised Arsenal as one of the standout teams he has observed in the Champions League this season after his team's 1-0 victory at San Siro on Wednesday evening.

Mikel Arteta’s side were beaten in Milan as Hakan Calhanoglu’s first-half penalty sealed the victory for the Serie A champions.

Arsenal dominated the second half but were unable to find the breakthrough against a stubborn Inter defence with centre-back Yann Bisseck delivering one of the standout performances of the match.

The defeat leaves Arsenal 12th in the Champions League table, two points behind an automatic place in the knockout round, while Inter, who are yet to concede in the competition this season, are fifth with 10 points from four games and remain unbeaten.

‘It’s a very important victory, desired, hard-fought, against a very strong team that created difficulties for us, especially on set pieces,’ Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia after his side’s win.

‘They are one of the best teams I’ve seen in this Champions League journey.

‘We started very well, then we lost ground. In the second half we restarted better and defended well. It’s a very important victory in front of our fans, having City and Arsenal meet in this way is a source of pride.

‘Our journey must continue like this, in the Champions League we are maintaining a good average and we must continue like this.’

Inzaghi was later asked in his post-match press conference if he intended for his Inter side to defend so deep.

‘For the development of the match, it can happen with certain opponents,’ Inzaghi said.

‘Arsenal take you with the whole team when you defend low, we conceded too many corners where they are lethal but we have worked hard on this, the boys wer magnificent.

‘However, we beat a great team, in my opinion, together with Manchester City, they are part of incredible duels in the Premier League and they have shown that they are a top club.’
