Former India captain Ajinkya Rahane will lead the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai, while India and Maharashtra batter Ruturaj Gaikwad will captain the Rest of India side in the Irani Cup.

Sarfaraz Khan, of course, is going to join the side as a middle-order batter. He will not be accompanied by his younger brother Musheer Khan, however, since the latter is at present undergoing treatment for injuries he received while traveling with his father and one more person from Azamgarh to Lucknow in a road accident last Saturday.

The rest of India squad will include the wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel and uncapped left-arm fast bowler Yash Dayal. How available these two are for the Irani Cup would also depend on whether they are playing in the second Test between India and Bangladesh, as the BCCI had said earlier.
